Old Photos Or Sketches Of Coach House Previously Included In The Property Of Arawai House

A Memory of Hill Brow.

My husband and I have recently purchased an Old Coach House that used to belong to Arawai House. We believe the House and this Stable were built around 1870 and we are trying to find any old sketches, maps or photographs of the original building. Half of the Coach House was destroyed by fire in 1957 and I have been told by the previous owners, The Massey's that the house was purchased by their parents around that time from a Mrs. Susan Mary Methley Philips. If anybody knows this lady or her descendants, I would be very interested to hear of any stories about the Stable in particular. We want to rebuild this to its former glory but only have footings and half a building to work with! If you google 'Coach Houses', large numbers of images come up and although some have similar arches, they are all very different. The Council is keen for us to re-instate as originally built. If anybody also has any pre-1957 aerial photographs of the area, we would bevery interested. We have already had several images from Historic England which show the building roof, but not the front! You never know, somebody, somewhere may have an old sketch/watercolour and Arawai House is an unusual house name and unlikely to be duplicated. Fingers crossed somebody can assist!
