More about this scene
By 1931, the redevelopment of St Mary's Square was complete. The river to the east of the church has been widened and landscaped, and bridges built to the north and south of the Churchyard. Details of the slum clearance are recorded on the main steps leading to the square. The buildings on the right are warehouses belonging to the Bancroft grocer, W B Moss. The newly built brick churchyard cloisters are on the left.
