In the 19th century the Bank House brewed its own beer: the wall and steps of the malt kiln and the cellar can be seen on the right. Further to the right was a building used for slaughtering animals, but this had ceased by 1904; the building has now been demolished.

I went to this school when we moved to Hixon in 1961 and I attended there until 1967. Mr. Harrison was the head teacher, his wife also taught there as did Mrs. Shaw.
My parents owned the village garage which sold petrol and did car repairs and I have fond memories of my time in Hixon, always out doing something, playing in the brook, collecting frogs from the claypits, exploring the airfield and other ...see more
My grandfather Harry Poole lived at Jubilee Cottage Fradswell for many years. He has gamekeeper to the Congreve family at Chartley Hall and a succession of others after Sir Geoffrey Congreve was killed at the end of WW2. I have my grandfathers diaries which records life on the estate and many of the people who lived there between the wars. He and wife Nellie (nee Jones) are buried at Gratwich church.
I was 6 when we moved to Hixon from Stowe by Chartley. My dear dad Len, my 2 sisters Rose and Sue and my 2 brothers Gray and Mick. We lived in the Croft no 24, my brother still lives in that house today overlooking the woods that were there and the fields. I have very happy memories of this lovely village. My twin sister and me were brought up in Hixon from babies till we were about 10, we were known as the Taylor Twins. We first lived with our nan in the house that stands at the top of Smithie Lane and Featherbed Lane, we then moved into what was called The Baths, it was a 1 up 1 down house next door to a Mrs Greenwood which was behind Prestons Yard.
