St Luke's Church would appear to be made of stone and brick, but in fact the main body of the church is timber, encased in brick outside and plaster within. This was done in the 18th century, and it is only recently that timbering in the ceiling has been rediscovered. Bullet marks on the lower part of the tower date from the period of the Civil War.
