My father, William Walter Inge (1907 -1991), was born here. He was one of two boys and three girls, and always had fond memories of Holmwood, so much so that the house I was born in, in Rugby, was named Holmwood, too. I'd love to know, does the house still stand and what does it look like now?
I travelled to Collyer's School in Horsham from Holmwood between 1967 and 1972. I would leave my bike at a house around the corner after having cycled from Broome Hall, and hopefully be in time for the 8.32. If I missed that, it would be the 8.55 which got me in just after Assembly, and a Late Detention awaited me. The alternative was the 414 bus, which passed by around the same time. The station master was ...see more
I was born at Orchard Bakery Cottages which is beyond the trees to the right of this photo. Many generations of my family attended the school. My great Aunt May (Skilton) in the early 1900s; various of my Uncles (Pat & Geoff Skilton) and all my brothers; my sister and myself and then my own children. It was a sad day when the school closed. The Hill itself was the scene of many bad traffic accidents in the ...see more

The name of the pond is Four Ways Pond. My family have lived around Holmewood for centuries. There are indeed four ways leading from the pond, hence the name, simple really.
We lived at Henfold a couple of miles from here, I used to be a pain in the neck to my older brother who used to come & fish at this pond. I caught my first "Red throat minnow" here. In the winter when it iced over we skated, played ice hockey & someone even drove a mini on the ice! I rode my pony often around the pond to access the Common & head off towards Leith Hill via ...see more
I loved going fishing with my father there, real fun times.
I'm pretty sure my great grandfather Hubert John Cavell, was brought here after becoming wounded in Ypres, in Belgium. He died on 22/04/1917. Does anybody have any information? I know that the Queen Alexandra nurses trained there.
I was born in the master bedroom on the main floor to the existing owners of Anstie. During our 3 years there we converted it to suites and modernised it considerably. On the day that I was born there were construction workers in the house and one of them cried when he heard the sound of a newborn baby, I was told many times. My parents split in 1956 and my mother sold it and moved to Canada. She regretted the ...see more
