More about this scene
Horley is now firmly back in Surrey, but for some years prior to 1974 it, along with Gatwick Airport, was within Sussex. Gatwick remains in Sussex, but Horley north of the River Mole was returned to Surrey. However, this brief selection of views of Horley are included in this book. Horley was a series of hamlets on the London to Brighton Road which only began to expand when the London to Brighton railway arrived in 1841. This view of Station Road is taken from the railway footbridge looking north-east. Sussex Towns From Chichester to Uckfield
