It Was A Cruel Cold Place To Be As A Child With A Wicked Cruel Matron Who Ruled With A Rod Of Iron.
A Memory of Hornsea.
staying in the home has left me scarred for life. me and my brother who was 2 and i was 6, were taken there and left for what seemed like months. no contact with our parents, the regime was hard and cruel. we were made to strip and make up the bed if we wet it in the night, we were smacked hard on the top of the legs if you did wet yourself which i did a lot of the time. we were locked in rooms alone and when i tried to help my brother who was crying and upset the nurse would slap me. they tied my brother into the bed when he tried to get out and i was slapped again when i tried to help him.cold floor boards with splinters that got in your feet. this place was a hell hole and if i couldn't hold my emotions and cried the matron would humiliate you by mocking you in front of the other children, it was a nightmare. i recall just one nurse who was kind and the others were wicked cows.
