A Memory of Horsham.

The old town hall in the centre has changed little although at the time this photo was taken the town hall was in the building to the left known then as the Anchor Hotel, now Bar Vin. The fine building to the right has gone to be replaced by a plainer building housing Rymans.
The post box is no longer on the left but has moved to behind where the car is parked on the right hand side.

My Father Leslie Coulson was born in Horsham in 1928 now 90 yrs of age, now living in Adelaide South Australia, was telling me the story when he and his mate Tony Greenfield went to the Town Hall when they brought John Haigh the Acid Bath Murderer in, Dad said he was standing right at the front along with many many others, and if he put his arm out he could nearly touch John Haigh. His memories are so vivid, he said Haigh was smiling away and looking very smug, the year was 1949 I believe. Dad also remembered the name of the Woman he was accused of Murdering, Mrs Durand Deacon, along with many others I believe. This is from his Daughter Jennifer Hilchey
