White Gates c1960. Horsted Keynes, situated on the western edge of the Ashdown Forest, has a green and an assortment of period houses and cottages. The village is probably most famous as the home of the Bluebell Railway, a popular attraction since it came into private ownership in the early 1960s.

I came to live in Horsted Keynes from Australia in 1982 with my youngest son.
He attended St Giles school. The dinner ladies, Eileen Clark, Jenny ? and one other lady were very kind to a small boy who had a major change in his life.
I attended primary school at Horstead Keynes briefly until it changed location a few miles away. (I went there as well but can't for the life of me recall the name of the place.) The head mistress was the tall and formidable Mrs. Czerniak, (probably spelt wrongly!), a lady who gave me a good grounding in elementary arithmetic and reading, the latter standing me in good stead ever since.
