A Memory of Hounslow.

Born in 1938, lived in Isleworth, I was constantly monitored for TB at the clinic as my father died of it when I was 12, I remember the shiney chairs, red and turquoise. The dentist there still holds horrors for me, 8 milk teeth taken out under gas, the mask was really frightening. My Mother afterwards bought me a cardboard fishing set!

Because of poor health I was often absent from school, unlike many of my friends who went to Grammar Schools I ended up at Bulstrode Mod. Sec. not the best time, favourite teacher was Mrs. Collier such an inspiration to me. I did have some good friends there, not kept in touch. I do remember an Ivy Bradley, 1950, who had the most beautiful singing voice, I wonder what happened to her.

Hounslow High Street, i believe there was a corn store, bus station end, where we bought chicken feed, Heineken’s, so full of character. I too went to the Milk Bar, Lampton Rd. I went to the White Bear for ballroom lessons, next to B. S. It saddens me greatly to see Hounslow/Isleworth, surrounding areas how it has become.
