My First Saturday Job In Bhs, Hounslow

A Memory of Hounslow.

I had my very first ‘Saturday job’ working at BHS in Hounslow High Street in 1956. My wage packet at the end of the day was fourteen shillings and eight pence! We used to stand inside a counter in those days, before everything was open plan and ‘serve yourself’.
I ended up on the lighting counter at the back of the store and every time a customer made a purchase I had to run upstairs to collect it from the stock room.
When we arrived early on a Saturday morning, some of the girls would play records in the record department and rock and roll to the music before the store opened!
Happy days - so long ago. Happily retired now in Dorset.

Great memory. People seemed happier in those days. Playing records before work! Great!
