The Pits And The Heath

A Memory of Hounslow.

Alan Benfell, born 43. Moulton Avenue near Wellington School/Sutton Lane. Went to Wellington until about 52 then moved to Marshall Close off Wellington Road South. Went to Grove road for a couple of years then on to SGGS (Black & White). Spent most of my early days over "the pits" near Lampton Park or on Hounslow Heath. Avid bird watcher and crawling things..When I went to Grove Road School, my parents omitted to tell them or Wellington that we had moved, so I arrived unannounced. They gave me a spelling test and I spelt pneumonia wrong (missed off the "p"). Allocated to the second class. Whirlwind days then.

Dear Alan. Your name sounds familiar. I was born in 1946 lived in Albion rd and went to grove rd and then bulstrode school. I knew bloke in Marshall close who was a great violinist but had a terrible shake. His name was Mike James. Does this ring any bells ?
Also Jenny Webb who lived in Wellington rd south and the fruit and veg shop on corner of Beresford gardens. The family Hershel ran it and Ernie was my best friend. Did you know Raymond Mandy. ??? Best wishes Warren stutely (hunny)
Sorry only relooked today (Sep 2019)Mike James, yes LOUD bells. Didn't know him personally but often walked by his house while he was playing the violin. Was the fruit and veg just in front of the nursery entrance... can't remember clearly. I think it closed down at some point. Didn't know Raymond Mandy but I went to Grove Road school when I was 9 to 11, about 1954/55. My Brother Robert (Bob) (born 46) went to Bulstrode.
