Childhood
A Memory of Hulme.
I was born July 1951, my parents were Dorothy (nee Moore) and Eric Almond, we lived at 156 Warde St. It was my grandparent's house, my grandfather Thomas Almond had died in 1950, so we moved in with Gran Clara (nee Cheetham) Almond. I went to Mulberry St School from 1955 to 1962 then went on to Ducie Technical School. We lived just across the road from The Junction pub. Who can forget the tin bath, the outside toilet, no heating, (we used to have a wrapped hot brick in bed to stop us freezing), the cast iron oven and grate? I used to help out at a greengrocers shop two doors down from The Junction pub, the owner was Rumaniian, he was called Paul Pavolini, does anyone remember the early fifties in that area?
