Some Of The Happiest Days Of My Life!

A Memory of Icklingham.

I loved Icklingham (still do) and all the people that lived in the village during the 1950's to 1960's.
My grandfather (Cecil) was a real character - not admired by all, but I worshiped him.
He kept pigs and I loved the daily routine of feeding, mucking out, etc.
We were a well-known family in the village (Marston's Flour Mill) and I marvel at how the mill grew from nothing (1915) to become a leading producer of white flour.
I have so many memories of walking the heath, swimming and fishing in the Lark.
So many wonderful people like Freddie, Harry, Eileen, Mr. Partridge; most of them gone now but never forgotten by me.

My father, Peter Benstead was born and grew up in Icklingham. His parents were Cyril and Florence Benstead who lived at Flint house then at Avenue Farm. I believe it was my great uncle, James Benstead who was a miller in Icklingham early in the 20th century. Margaret Chapman (Nee Benstesd)
