More about this scene
At the top of Lantern Hill (centre right), 100 feet above sea level, stands the Chapel of St Nicholas, patron saint of sailors, fittingly enough, and also of scholars. Probably the oldest building in the town, built in the early 14th century, the chapel has also functioned as a laundry, a home for a family of sixteen, and a lighthouse.
