Ben Rhydding

A Memory of Ilkley.

I moved to Ben Rhydding at a year old and grew up there with my brother and sister. We loved living there, exploring the river and the moors. I distinctly remember the large detached house Thornycroft when it was still owned by a wealthy family. I visited them frequently to walk their two dogs, Puffin and Brandy. They still had their croquet lawn,
a very large, exotic greenhouse and the old servants' quarters. We lived next door. I still also remember the two cinemas in Ilkley and the old railway bridge that spanned Brook Street where we would shelter in adverse conditions! Life in Ilkley was just lovely, so many places to roam in complete safety exploring the stepping stones over the Wharfs, cycling to Bolton Abbey and the Strid, the miniature railway down at CaraCars and so much more.
Hoping my memories trigger other similar memories for other readers.
