More about this scene
This charming scene awaited visitors to Ilkley's many hydropathic establishments, which included the Spa, the Grove, Ben Rhydding and the majestic Wells House, designed by Cuthbert Brodrick, architect of the Leeds Town Hall. Staying at Wells House in 1859 was Charles Darwin. Later, when the building was a hotel, Victor Sylvester entertained the guests. Today, the building houses Ilkley College.
