Christmas Deliveries: If you placed an order on or before midday on Friday 19th December for Christmas delivery it was despatched before the Royal Mail or Parcel Force deadline and therefore should be received in time for Christmas. Orders placed after midday on Friday 19th December will be delivered in the New Year.

More about this scene

Kippax and its neighbour Great Preston grew up around the coal mines of the district. Today, Kippax tends to be a commuter town to Leeds, but three centuries ago it was home to the beautiful Kippax Hall and Park. Bought by the Bland family in 1595, it was greatly extended: its frontage measured 600ft, only slightly less than Wentworth Woodhouse near Elsecar, thereby losing a wager made with the Marquis of Rockingham. The Blands had to sell land in Manchester to settle the bet. Kippax Park was abandoned in 1929 and finally demolished in the late 1950s, when the land was used for opencast mining.

Down Memory Lane Westfield
My father, Douglas Aubrey Dixon, also known as 'Reginald' lived with his father, Temple Dixon, at 'Westholme' Westfield Lane - No.81. My paternal grandfather bought the house for £385 in June, 1935. Temple Dixon was a retired railway detective having worked his way up the ladder so-to- speak from working as a porter and ticket collector at Mirfield station (1901 census). Some History
I used to catch the school bus to Castleford at the White Swan on the left; this was re-built in the early 1900s. The Royal Oak on the far right was originally opposite the Swan where the fish shop is. The "new" Royal Oak (now closed) was called Kippax House and was home to a doctor prior to taking the Pub licence. The old pub was known locally as "Kate Masons" after a landlady of the early 1900s. Smiths Chemist, long demolished, occupies the centre of the view. Bob

Old Tree Area

My Great Grandmother, Ana Louisa Clayton, can be found on the 1881 census working in the Old Tree. The old cinema is hidden on the right. I watched "whistle down the wind" there with my sister which must have been not long before it closed. My wife worked in the "old" Co-op on the left Bob Clayton

Temple Of Memories Revisited
2013 was the 100th anniversary of my father 'Reginald' Douglas Aubrey Dixon, so I returned to St. Mary's and laid what I call a 'platinum' wreath by the plaque I had engraved for the 'new cemetery' which records those whose ashes have been scattered (1998). Despite over 20 years’ work on the archive, these scans have still not been individually checked and may prove to be damaged, faded, or not of sufficient quality to ever be offered in our full product range. However, if you would particularly like to buy one of these please get in touch quoting the Frith negative number,(s) the town name and size of print you would like to buy. On receipt of your enquiry our archivist will check the scan and advise you if the quality is good enough.

What is an Album?

An album is a way to save a selection of Frith photos, maps and memories that are of interest to you.

Creating an Album enables you to make short lists and then make a final selection from the album. In particular it makes ordering things like calendars much easier - simply create an Album of the 12 photos you like and then use the Album when placng your order - our order process will give you this option.

You can create as many Albums as you want, so perhaps make one for your hometown, where you live now, where your parents live now etc.
