More about this scene

This clock tower was erected in 1872, and dominates this small junction in the town. Knighton has managed to preserve its charming juxtaposition of period houses as we see here, and shows a very interesting townscape. A small girl prefers her umbrella to the shade under the shop blinds on this warm-looking day in post-war Wales. The years since this photograph was taken have done little to change any detail seen here.

A Beautiful Place
My family roots are from knighton and lloyney, Mona Cadwallader was my aunt she was a midwife in knighton, her sister edith gordon (both nee hammond) was my nan, they lived in lloyney before marriage mona and her husband ken lived in frydd terrace and nan went to liverpool. My mum spent her childhood with the family in knighton and was evacuated there ww2, my nans cousin vincent hammond lived with his parents ...see more

Bill Brown
I remember Bill Brown from the days when he ran the local cinema in the Norton Arms ballroom and later at the cinema he built just off the carpark. He also captured many scenes in Knighton with his cameras. I don't know if he is still around, but what a wealth of memories he must have stored away. On receipt of your enquiry our archivist will check the scan and advise you if the quality is good enough.

What is an Album?

An album is a way to save a selection of Frith photos, maps and memories that are of interest to you.

Creating an Album enables you to make short lists and then make a final selection from the album. In particular it makes ordering things like calendars much easier - simply create an Album of the 12 photos you like and then use the Album when placng your order - our order process will give you this option.

You can create as many Albums as you want, so perhaps make one for your hometown, where you live now, where your parents live now etc.
