More about this scene
Church Cove is on the east side of the Lizard. The building on the left is the lifeboat station, erected in 1885; it is unusual that it is set at right angles to the beach. Difficulties in launching and retrieving the lifeboat led to its demise in 1899, in favour of Polpeor Cove on the Lizard itself. Note the capstan houses for hauling boats out of the water.
