More about this scene
This thoroughfare is a continuation of Westgate and Park Lane, and at 80 ft wide is 10 ft wider than Union Street, Aberdeen. Dominating the foreground is the headquarters of the Leeds Permanent Building Society. Its exterior is clearly designed to impress: classical-style swags, urns, and pillars are incorporated to suggest a local business of probity and longevity. However, it has been recently closed - the whole area around the town hall is being redeveloped and named Millennium Square.
