More about this scene
As a spry 86-year-old, originally intended as a temporary structure, the De Montfort Hall shows little signs of ageing. Designed by Shirley Harrison in 1913 in a classical yet economical style, the rendered brick building sits well in its very formal garden, close to Victoria Park and to Lutyens' War Memorial. It is a tribute to that rare phenomenon, the architect who can produce an all round first-rate building on a limited budget.
