More about this scene
This broad road leading into the heart of the town is bounded by 17th- and 18th-century buildings. Of more recent times, but not to be credited with the same level of survival, are the brand names visible in the photograph; Regent and Fina petrol and oils have long been subsumed into larger conglomerates, and the Hillman car company has had a chequered history since 1955.
