Names From The Past. 1947

A Memory of Lemington.

I lived in Rokeby Villas, had a brother named Arthur, who belonged to the Boys Brigade, Archie Waters, Billy Cockburn, Harry Gibson, Colin Robinson, Ian Wilson,.
I was 5yrs younger, friends, Dorota Swedkowicz, Lily Robson,
Eileen Atkinson, Elizabeth Lambert, Brian and Margaret Jude. Richard Gair, Ross Hall, Wilfred Gibson, (parents had newsagent on Tyne view) and George Blanchflower. Most of us went to Sugley Parish Church, sang in church choir, and were involved in Pantomimes. and the Young Companions. I took piano lessons along with Eileen, from Mrs. Douglas, who used to live in Montague Street. and Miss Plant. My singing teacher was Bobby Hull, (Montague Street) who had a daughter Sonia. In our early years we attended Newburn Hall School, (Miss Mortimer) and then in the "Big School," our teachers, Mrs. Cundell, (a no nonsense strict woman) Mrs Hayes. I was in Brownies, with Magaret Jude, and later Girl Guides the meetings held at a school on upper Montaue Street, just before the Letch. Names from the past, happy memories, and a thought of where they are today, I kept in touch with Wilfred, who had a very successful career playing the violin. He did play for awhile with Electric Light Orchestra ) also played in movies, Shakespeare in Love was one, and had his own band,he died 2 years ago, in Surbiton, Surrey My best friend Elizabeth, (Her Aunts lived at The Orchard) now lives in Peterborough. Still "best friends" today. Her cousin owned Wrights farm. Richard Gair, last time I heard was living in Thailand. Ross Hall, and wife Jean, live in Yorkshire, and visit Vancouver, Canada often. Thanks to all my childhood friends. Where are you now? Aida Brunton.
