The Army, probably from the neighbouring garrison town of Catterick, was on parade in the sloping, rectangular Market Place at Leyburn in Wensleydale when the Frith photographer called for this picture. There was not much of an audience to watch the troops as they marched past the Black Swan Hotel in the centre of the picture, although there were a few curious bystanders.

Leyburn is my home town, although, I was born in the Gatehouse to Danby Hall and lived there for the first 2 years of my life. I remember marching up and down the market place with the army bands.
