1960s Church Street And Mum's Family

A Memory of Littlehampton.

My Mum's sister and her husband, in the late 50s, took up residence in the Vicarage on the corner of Church Street and Fitizalan Road ( now Claridge House Retirement home. ) His name was Rev Phillip Barry, and Rosemary ( Mum's sister ) his wife, they had three children, very sadly a forth child died aged three and a half with thalidomide caused issues in 1963.
My Granny ( Mum's mum ) moved from Henfield to 34 Church Street, mainly to help with young Andrew, in 1961. We lived in Oving, close to Tangmere airfield, and my brother and I stayed many times during the 60s at no.34. We used to love going down to Gamleys toy shop and staring in the window, ear marking toys we wanted for Christmas. I do remember a lot of Beatles merchandise around 64/65, plastic guitars, wigs ( mop tops ) mirrors with their faces on etc etc. Summertime, Granny took us on the mini railway and bought us a Pepsi, I was 7 in 1964, my brother 5.
Occasionally we'd go along to the old Palladium cinema in Church St, that was a great treat during some school holidays. The Barrys moved in 1964 from the Vicarage, and Granny and our family later moved in 1968 to Hailsham. I will always have fond memories of 60s Littlehampton.
If anyone knows when the Vicarage was demolished. It looks like in the 90s but I'd love to know.
