More about this scene
The boatyard in the picture was built c1815; it still exists. Boats can be hired or moored here, and the building has been restored and is now a house. It was once an iron-ore warehouse from which the ore was loaded onto canal boats and shipped on to local ironworks. There is still some evidence of this traffic in the form of tramlines.
