Pontyclun Memories

A Memory of Llantrisant.

I was born at 81 Cowbridge Rd, Pontyclun. Parents, George and Gwen Edwards were in rooms with Tom and Bertha Anstey. In 1936 went to Pontyclun School, lots of friends there, Ray Wigley ,Don Summers, Norman Ellis and Percy Edwards. Was in Air Cadets, also played rugby for Pontyclun with my cousin Brandon Edwards and the likes of Brian Evans, Mog Watkins and Noel Alleyn. Only one season, think it was 1958/9 and Bryn Rees was captain. I worked at Iron Ore, left area in 1964 while working at Coedely Colliery. Lived in South Africa for 35 years, lost touch with a lot of friends. Brought up in Lewis Street, anyone remember me? Best wishes, fond memories.
We had great time during my upbringing there, Magic Lantern at the Baptist Chapel, Community singing at the Welsh Tabernacle. Pc Hendicote was the Bobby during the war . Jack Doyle came from Irish Guards after the war. Remember asking Yanks for sweets when they had dances at the Instuite? That's all for now.
