More about this scene
This picture was taken in early June 1897 as preparations were made for Queen Victoria's Diamond Jubilee procession to pass up the park-side road from Piccadilly. The six-mile roundabout route from Buckingham Palace to St Paul's Cathedral and back was necessary in the pre-film and television age.
