This graceful ornamental fountain was erected in 1875 at the southern end of Park Lane at the junction with Hamilton Place. Designed by Sir Hamo Thornycroft, it incorporates three heroic-size marble figures of Shakespeare, Milton and Chaucer. The statue is surmounted by the gilded bronze winged figure of Fame, poised with one foot on a globe.
