The chamber of the House of Lords is prepared for Edward VII's first state opening of Parliament. The throne on the right is for Queen Alexandra. This was the first state opening since the death of the Prince Consort forty years earlier, as Queen Victoria never personally read the speech from the throne after she became a widow.
