A crowd gathers round the new Cenotaph to inspect the wreaths. The Cenotaph replaced a temporary plaster memorial to the dead of the Great War which had been erected on the site for the Victory Parade in 1919. Edwin Lutyens, who was the architect, reworked the design for the now familiar Portland stone structure.
