Longhope, The Village c.1955

More about this scene
The main road (A4136) skirts Longhope, and consequently the village remains a peaceful backwater. Indeed, the scene in Church Street captured here has changed remarkably little in the past half century. The Central Stores, now owned by V A and A E Geach, is in business today and provides important service to the local community, while the house ahead with the gabled attic rooms is now the village post office.
