I have fond and warm memories of school holidays in Bentham. I used to get sent to visit my Auntie Annie and Uncle Jack Heron, thay have a son, Roger Heron. Their house was a small terraced with the garden over the road, no houses in front. Can any one identify the location in Lower Bentham as I would like to visit?
On the 1901 census my great-aunt's son Christopher Lodge and his wife Elizabeth (nee Williamson) are living at 87 Crow Trees, Lower Bentham with their daughter Marjery (b.1901) and he is listed as an engine driver. In 1911 they are living in Cumberlaand Villas, Lower Bentham and they now have a son Vernon (b.1909) and he is a Stationary Engineman (?). Has anyone any memory or details of this family please? I have fond memories of walking from High Bentham to my primary school - Low Bentham Church of England Parochial School. Teacher Miss Robinson, pupils, Eva Clay, Carol Hinds, Joyce Thornber, snow in the playground, piles of coke, hallway with rows of coats, Junket !! Francis Hardy-Birt
