Lowestoft, The South Pier Reading Room 1896

More about this scene
The reading room was badly damaged during the Second World War, and its remains were demolished. A new pavilion was opened by the Duke of Edinburgh in 1956. However, this was pulled down in the 1980s as part of an ultimately unsuccessful marina project. What with the adjacent Claremont Pier having had its decking closed, Lowestoft's piers have seen better days.
