More about this scene

Caption for Lydford, Village And War Memorial 1922: This view, taken on the northern edge of the village, is almost unrecognisable, for extensive changes have taken place. Lydford is a place of great antiquity. The Saxons were here and had a mint, one of four in Devon. It was important militarily in those days, but soon it was superseded by Launceston and Okehampton, and Lydford just gently slumbered - as it does today.
