More about this scene
The 14th-century cross, on its original base and at the top of eight stone steps, underwent restoration in 1878. The Town Hall, across the road, dates from 1888; it mirrors the ogee arch of the cross in its own flat-fronted entrance. It was a gift to the town from the Bathurst family.
