Lyme Regis, The Cobb c.1955

More about this scene
Here we see the buildings on the harbour wall of the Cobb, as we look eastwards through the entrance (left) to Cain's Folly and Stonebarrow Hill, from where National Trust land now extends to Golden Cap (top right) and beyond. Warehouses on the inner arm of the Cobb (right) date from before 1723. Despite subsequent rebuilding, the distinctive shape of its walls has been perpetuated since the Middle Ages, when Lyme was one of England's premier ports.
