More about this scene

Lympstone is still a secretive little village on the estuary of the River Exe, once a haunt of fishermen and smugglers and now beloved of artists and birdwatchers. It owes its solitude to the fact that the Exeter road bypasses it. It achieved a status as a modest resort in the early years of the 19th century when a number of the cottages we see here were built to accommodate visitors.
