Family History, Mains Of Inveramsay

A Memory of Mains of Inveramsay.

My great-grandfather, James Webster, took out a lease and came to Inveramsay in 1852 with his wife, Barbara Neil Webster to farm the property. They subsequently had 2-sons and 5-daughters, including my grandfather, also James, who migrated to Hawaii in 1893. My grandmother, Mary Ann Patterson also, from the Abderdeenshire area, followed him later and they married in Hawaii. James became a successful sugar plantation manager, and he and Mary Ann had 2-sons and 2-daughters, of which one was my mother. My great-grandfather James' passed away at age 40 leaving his wife Barbara to pick up the pieces and, I am sure under what must have been very trying circumstances, kept the farm going. I understand the Mains is still operated by my relatives.I had always hoped to visit the Mains, but as I approach 80, that looks somewhat dubious..
