More about this scene
Notice how the children stand unconcernedly in the middle of the road in this charming photograph! The cross in the foreground was erected in 1877; it commemorates Charles Augustus Thurlow, who was rector here for 33 years. The black and white building at the dar side of the street is the Victoria Jubilee Hall, erected in 1887; today it also has a clock to celebrate another jubilee, that of Queen Elizabeth II in 2002.
