More about this scene
Manchester's Royal Jubilee Exhibition at Old Trafford opened on Tuesday, 2 May 1887. The Queen had declined the invitation to open this celebration of her 50 years on the throne, but Prince Edward agreed, and the Prince and Princess of Wales did the honours. The entrance they used was termed the Royal Entrance. The church tower is actually a replica of Manchester Cathedral; this was the centrepiece of an 'Old Manchester' exhibition, where a medieval Manchester was recreated.
