Manchester, St Peter's Church c.1885

More about this scene
The church's foundation stone was laid on 11 December 1788, and the church was consecrated on 6 September 1795. It was designed in Doric style by James Wyatt, and the plans and the building work were pushed through by the Rev Samuel Hall, a curate at St Ann's Church, who became St Peter's first rector. The dome and clock were added in 1823. The church closed down in 1904, and was demolished in 1906. Interestingly, the four columns seen in our picture were taken to Knutsford to await use in another building, and that is where they are today - behind the King's Coffee House in King Street, Knutsford.
