Post 1 The Den Builders

A Memory of Marbury.

My brother Colin and I lived at 109 East park Marbury, we were originally in no 110 which was a long red hut as I remember it. The Cleary's lived next door who were from Liverpool and I remember Willie Cleary as being a bit of a "Jack the lad".

Dad like most fathers worked for ICI in Altrincham and used to go to work on a motorbike - A car came later.

We left in 1966 to move to Africa but still remember vividly the Bidewell family who were great fun, Marina was in our gang. The Tokers, Mrs Bidewell's sister (sorry, can't remember the family name).

Mrs Bidewell always used to have huge sweet jars full of delicious muruku and other Indian savouries.

Her husband Dan's yard was a treasure trove of broken things that were the lifeblood of our den building.

Our main task in life, when we were not falling in the mere, was building dens everywhere.

I was a member of the cubs and remember having to ride past the hall when it was dusk on my bike - having grown up with all of the stories I was scared out of my life!

Heaven knows how much those marble statues that lay in the undergrowth would be worth today.

Like the other posters, I remember them as very happy days.

I remember Steven , Anita and Jeanie were my friend. I use to go in there house after Sunday lunch and watch the film. Do you remember Steven shaving his head in the woods after being told to get a hair cut at school. I lived at 100 after the Cambell's moved out. We use to think we heard the horses hovers trotting down the back road after midnight when the street lights went out. Do you remember. Live in Marbury from the age of 2 to 16.
