This splendid view of the site of the former cliff-top fort was taken prior to the extension of the cliff-foot promenade.The terrace of houses in the centre of the picture, Fort Paragon, was constructed soon after the Napoleonic Wars, certainly before 1830, as were the houses of Fort Crescent, on the right.The bandstand is late 19th-century.
