More about this scene

Described as the quietest spot in the dale, this is where Benedictine nuns chose to build their priory in 1158. The Dissolution forced closure in 1539, and the chancel now lies in ruins. The nave was rebuilt in 1811. Since being made redundant, the church has now been converted to an outdoors adventure centre for young people.

A Selection of Memories from Marrick

For many years now, we've been inviting visitors to our website to add their own memories to share their experiences of life as it was, prompted by the photographs in our archive. Here are some from Marrick

Sparked a Memory for you?

If this has sparked a memory, why not share it here?

Marrick eh!! Well I lived there 18 years. Had some good times. My dad was a farmer, John Metcalfe. We lived at Graham House. I got married in 1988 and left for the better life not!! I'd give anything to live in there again with my children. Have loads of memories, way too many to list. I do wonder who still lives there I'd know. Anyone wants to get in touch, email me sharonmetcalfe@hotmail.co.uk
