Family Addition

A Memory of Membury.

In the early 1940's a new family child was born at the Membury Post Office. We were in Membury for only a short time. before returning to England's north west where I was born in 1939.. My dad was in the Royal Navy.
I have a memory of pedalling down the very narrow road in my pedal car near to the church when along came a tractor or a truck I can't remember which but I do remember being terrified. But all was well.
Is the building that was the Post Office still there ?. Are the roads still very narrow ?
Live in Canada now. Plenty of room.
Memories fading now. Why can I remember Membury in the 1940's and don't know what day it is.
Thanks for the opportunity.

We live in what used to be the Red Lion pub, the roads are still very narrow and our children now use the lane by the church. The post office closed a couple of years ago and is now a house. The school is still open and overall the village looks much the same as it must have done in the 1930s. The big chestnut tree in the photo is very much still alive !
We live in a bungalow that is built where this photo was taken. Opposite the post office.
The post office is now a private dwelling and when it was developed the whole of the shop/post office is now a very large kitchen/dinner.
It’s still recognisable as the old post office but it now looks much posher as a large family house. The rest of the village is probably very much as it was. Narrow roads and very picturesque.
A lovely place to live.
