Meols, Birkenhead Road c.1940

More about this scene
This view of Birkenhead Road was taken very early in the wartime decade - the parked vehicles lack the white painted edges to the front and rear wings, and none of the windows in the houses on the right show evidence of blast protection stripping that were features of the early 1940s. With four cars visible, this section of the township was obviously wealthy – indeed, it was the opening of the road link to Birkenhead that prompted the rapid growth from settlement to village.
