More about this scene
The town originally grew up around the burial place of the Celtic Saint Tydfil. The old parish church of St Tydfil was restored and re-built in the 1890s; its graveyard was greatly reduced in 1902 to construct the road to Cardiff. Now a chapel of ease, the church survived an attempt to pull it down in the 1970s with the support of the poet John Betjeman.
