More about this scene
Many people ponder as to how this charming village got its name. The first part of it - 'Michel' - is not clear, but the second part means 'water', and is a reference to the little River Dever which rises in nearby Stratton Park before meeting the Test at Wherwell. Nearby is the station, dating back to 1840 and the only one on the 19-mile stretch of railway between Winchester and Basingstoke.
